Al Habtoor Motors brings to the UAE the fastest car on earth - Bugatti Veyron 16.4

The announcement came on the eve of the 8th Middle East International Motor Show in Dubai, which was concluded recently.

The historic fast racing cars of Bugatti date back to 1909 and dominated the motoring world until 1940. The legendary Bugatti is back with the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, which is now in series production. Awarded 'Car of the Year' and 'Dream Car of the Year' for the year 2005 by Top Gear - UK's leading motoring magazine, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 literally whizzes by at its top speed letting only a nanosecond-glimpse of its taillights.

Mr. Mark L Jones - General Manager, Al Habtoor Motors said that it is a great achievement on the part of Al Habtoor Motors to introduce Bugatti in the Middle East market. 'Within days of its launch, Al Habtoor Motors has already received four confirmed orders for Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and three more are expected', added Mr. Mark L Jones. From now onwards, Al Habtoor Motors will be in charge of the sales, events and promotions, servicing, organizing factory visits and also test-drives for Bugatti in the UAE.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4: Engine & Performance
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 comes with a W16 alloy engine and 1001 horsepower (736 kW), the car propels from 0 to 100 kph (62.1 mph) in just 2.5 seconds and past 300 kph (196.4 mph) in 14 seconds. Designed by Bugatti, the engine employs the space-saving VR principle with two particularly slender eight-cylinder blocks arranged at a 90-degree angle to each other.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 generates a torque of 1,250 Nm between 2,200 and 5,500 rpm and a speed of 406 kph (252.3 mph) - the maximum speed for which chassis and drive train have been designed. The power transmission is through an innovative direct-shift sequential 7-speed gearbox and it transmits the engine's power to the wheels via permanent four-wheel drive.

Safety Features:
The safety system of Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has been designed to cope with its extraordinary performance, acceleration and speed. Maximum safety is assured by its single-piece carbon fibre monocoque, while air bags give the driver and passenger additional protection. The high-speed tyres are designed specially for the Bugatti Veyron 16.4. With the innovative PAX System, even if air pressure is suddenly lost, Bugatti ensures safe handling. Another safety element is the rear spoiler that acts as a kind of 'parachute brake' during emergency braking.

Exterior & Interior:
Only a few changes are made to the appearance of the latest generation of Bugatti as compared to its original marque. Some of the striking features of Bugatti Veyron 16.4 are its athletic appearance, distinct curves, imaginary extension of the side window area wide fenders, and the front and side air inlets. The classical two-tone paintwork of the series remains unchanged. Specially selected five standard colour combinations are available for the series. The wing mirrors have integrated indicator lights, the retractable rear spoiler has been aerodynamically modified in line with its dual role as a braking element, and the enormous 20" wheels feature a discreet EB logo in the center, yet another feature of its 1930s racing cars.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 unveils an exclusive world of its own. But for the instruments and a few metal trim pieces, the interior is almost completely swathed in fine leather. The driver gets a complete report from the dash, including real-time horsepower thanks to its classically designed instruments. It's fascinating to note that some of the superfluous instruments are deliberately avoided - evoking its uncompromising sportiness.

ZORSE. Meet Eclyse - the amazing zebra crossing

Meet Eclyse - the amazing zebra crossing
It looks as if someone tried to give a zebra a respray. . . then ran out of white paint halfway through the job.

But in reality there is no artificial colouring on display here. This amazing but natural coat belongs to Eclyse the zorse.

Her father is a zebra, while her mother is a horse. And she's walking proof of how a child inherits genes from both parents.

Eclyse has earnt its stripes as one of the zoo's main attractions.

For while most zebra-horse crossbreeds sport stripes across their entire body, Eclyse only has two such patches, on its face and rear.

The one-year-old zorse was the accidental product of a holiday romance when her mother, Eclipse, was taken from her German safari park home to a ranch in Italy for a brief spell.

There she was able to roam freely with other horses and a number of zebras, including one called Ulysses who took a fancy to her.

When Eclipse returned home, she surprised her keepers by giving birth to the baby zorse whose mixed markings betray her colourful parentage.

The foal was promptly given a name that is in itself a hybrid, of her parents' names.

Now she's become a major attraction at a safari park at Schloss Holte Stukenbrock, near the German border with Holland, where she has her own enclosure.

Udo Richter, spokesman for the park, said, "You can tell she is a mix just by looking at her. But in temperament she can also exhibit characteristics from each parent.

"She is usually relatively tame like a horse but occasionally shows the fiery temperament of a zebra, leaping around like one."

Horses and zebras are often crossbred in Africa and are used as trekking animals on Mount Kenya.

The Red Binder

Dear friends

I have spent the last few days compiling a Master Reference binder to help deal with internal office issues.

Inside this binder you will find "solutions" to everyday problems you may encounter.

So if you are having problems with processes or you're having difficulty dealing with customers wanting you to fix something, just open the red binder.

If Friday won't come fast enough; come track down this red binder, usually found on or in my desk, it should help get you through the day.

Thanks,

Butterfly Man

Fairy Pictures / Butterfly Man
Netlore Archive: Emailed photos purport to show mummified remains of a fairy (aka 'butterfly man' or 'moth man') discovered in the Derbyshire countryside of England

Description: Emailed images
Circulating since: April 2007
Status: April Fools hoax
Analysis: See below

Maybe not anymore but a recent discovery would suggest that they probably did. What appear to be the mummified remains of a fairy have been discovered in the Derbyshire countryside.

The 8inch remains complete with wings, skin, teeth and flowing red hair have been examined by anthropologists and forensice experts who can confirm that the body is genuine. X-rays of the 'fairy' reveal an anatomically identical skeleton to that of a child. The bones however, are hollow like those of a bird making them particularly light. The puzzling presence of a navel even suggests that the beings reproduce the same as humans despite the absence of reproductive organs.

Comments: BBC News has confirmed that the images and text above were created as an April Fools prank by Dan Baines, whose job is designing "strange and unique" illusions for stage magicians. The story of the mummified fairy's discovery was first posted in March 2007 on Baines' Website, Lebanon Circle Magic Company, where it attracted as many as 20,000 hits in a single day. After confessing to the hoax he sold the fake artifact on eBay for £280. Many people, he says, continue to insist it's real.

The prank calls to mind the infamous Cottingley Fairies hoax of 1917, wherein a pair of young British girls with too much time on their hands concocted fake photographs of tiny, humanoid fairies flitting through the air. The photos were vetted as authentic by none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes series, and received an inordinate amount of publicity from a credulous press. It wasn't until 66 years later, in 1983, that one of the girls confessed that the fairy images had been hand-drawn and suspended in the air via hatpins to be photographed.

Gaff art

Baines' work is an outstanding example of what is called "gaff art," the use of taxidermy and prop-building techniques to create realistic-looking sideshow artifacts. One famous example was P.T. Barnum's half-ape, half-fish Feejee Mermaid, which astonished visitors to his American Museum in the mid-1800s. More recent examples, such as Juan Cabana's "Golden Mermaid" carcass, have won fame and infamy thanks to images circulated via the Internet.

Continental takes world speed record

Continental takes world speed record

Continental has entered the Guinness Book of World Records with a top speed of 242 mph (388 km/h). We're definitely not talking about the behemoth Bentley, as powerful as it is. The record now officially belongs to Continental Tires for its ContiSportContact Vmax, which has been officially certified by those stout-chugging judges as the world's fastest production road tire.

The rubber was tested on the 9ff-modified Porsche 911 that took the world record for the fastest street-legal road car. A custom 9ff cabrio also took the record for the world's fastest convertible with a high end of 237.8 mph (380.5 km/h). Both cars are owned by 9ff chief Jan Fatthauer, and the top speed runs were certified by Guinness.

If you're thinking that the Bugatti Veyron (and the purpose-made Michelin rubber on its wheels) can hit a higher speed, you may be right, but the Veyron has yet to try for the official record, and its tires were specially made for the Bugatti, while the Continentals are offered to the public as standard production road tires. As much as the car's own capabilities, how it makes contact with the road (i.e., its tires) often dictates a car's limits. Just keeping the tires from melting (as they do on the Veyron after just 12 minutes at its 253-mph top speed) is a feat in and of itself.

Bipasha Basu's dreams came true

One of Bipasha Basu's dreams came true at Lisbon, Portugal when she got to meet her favourite footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

The actress made the most of it. She says she danced and partied with the football star who is a big fan of Bollywood. Bipasha hosted the 'Seven Wonders of the World' ceremony at the Benfica Stadium in Lisbon on July 7.

"For two months I had been raving to my boyfriend John that I'd meet Cristiano at IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) awards. They had promised to make him walk with me. I was crushed when it didn't happen. Who was to know that I'd party with him just weeks after IIFA", Bipasha said.

"I was like a fan to begin with. But after we bonded we just became two individuals' bonding as buddies over an important international event. We're pals now. If I ever have to see a football game, all I've to do is ask Cristiano", she added.

There are 98 residential units on 19 floors, using the pattern of outdoor spaces to determine the overall appearance of the project. Form follows function which leaves ample room
from the interior living spaces for much greenery.
The whole effect creates a building which appears to be living and growing with its inhabitants - A waterfront cactus.

The slightly irregular pattern alternates these outdoor spaces to create more sunlight than a typical stacked composition and a beautiful design that has originality and adds vitality to citylife.
